Chapter 9: Ghost

117.

Su Yu looked at me silently, his eyes calm.

My rice bowl had fallen to the ground and rolled away, unattended.

A few minutes later, Su Yu stood up, walked aside, picked up the bowl, and placed it back in front of me: "I'm serious."

I think there's definitely something wrong with Su Yu's brain. He wanted to get married? To me? A ghost?

Meng Po's soup was still waiting for me. Who the hell knows where I'll reincarnate in the next life? Was there any point in getting married now?! Nonsense!

I was stunned and enraged, wishing I could just smash the bowl over Su Yu's head.

Su Yu picked up the chopsticks and continued eating while talking leisurely, as if it were just a casual conversation: "I thought about it for a long time on the day you left. I can't do anything about life and death, and I've no regrets. The only thing that still bothers me is that I haven't yet married you. Actually, I had been planning it for a few days, but I didn't expect you to leave so quickly...

I was stunned.

Su Yu: "I'd been picking the ring for a while, but you left the day I made my choice. There was an issue at the merchant's end, so they delivered a women's ring instead. I was going to get it exchanged, but since you hid it, it appears that you quite like it. So be it."

If I had a physical body right now, my expression would have been wonderful.

Su Yu: "Oh yes, do you still want to ask about my marriage on your touqi?"

I gave a nod. I would not have returned from the Bridge of Helplessness in a rage if it hadn't been for this.

Su Yu laughed mischievously and said: "I went to the hospital morgue and requested that if someone passed away quickly and met you, please bring you a message. I didn't have any hope, but to my surprise, it worked. Do you recall who told you? I'll burn some paper money for them."

Me: ……

I shuddered as I imagined Su Yu standing in the morgue, facing the wall of large drawers full of corpses asking for help to deliver a message.

This enticing dog raised an eyebrow and asked in a spanking-worthy voice: "Did you get angry? So angry you wanted to come back to life? Serves you right. I was also very angry when you just died like that."

Me: ……

OK! You're awesome, your vengeance technique is truly unique, unprecedented and unmatched.

119.

And that was the end of the story.

Su Yu then stood up to do the dishes.

In a complicated mood, I sat in the same spot, my head full of question marks.

—-Hey! Wait a minute. How could this be the end? When did I say I'd marry you? Could you please hold on for a second there my friend??!

Eh? Eh? This friend, say something!

120.

Su Yu returned after washing the dishes: "What do you want to do tonight?"

This question really stumped me.

It is reasonable to say that since I have returned, I am still this thing's sugar daddy. As for the inevitable and proper work that a sugar daddy and a little illicit lover should do… I looked at my "bony" body. It truly was a case of the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

Seriously, why didn't I just buy an inflatable doll beforehand?

121.

In the past, after dinner, we would usually go out for a walk, stopping occasionally to buy some snacks or something. But in this situation, I didn't want to waste time outside.

Obviously, neither did Su Yu.

As a result, both of us sat staring at each other.

It was a truly extraordinary situation. We were both a little nervous because neither of us had any experience.

I thought for a long time, then took out my phone from the bedroom and typed: Shall we… WeChat?

Su Yu: ……

That handsome face had a very colorful expression.

Actually, messaging on WeChat wasn't much. We caused mutual harm in accordance with our consistent "awesome" personalities. I called him a dog, and he called me a fool, accompanied by an army of expression packs. This happened on a regular basis before, and we were evenly matched.

Su Yu went to the kitchen after we got tired of dissing each other and poured strawberry milk for me, making sure to mix it with incense ash.

Then the night went by.

Aimless, squandering time on pointless activities, eating and waiting for death.

122.

But it appears that this is what I want to do the most. It made no sense and served no purpose. It was just a matter of staying with Su Yu.

It was nice to be able to simply stay with him.

That night, Su Yu held me as I fell asleep. He hugged me from behind, intertwined his fingers, and placed them on my chest, as he had done so many times before.

His breathing was even and long, as if he could finally sleep peacefully after so many days.

I was thinking about something when I heard someone call my name, the voice ringing beside the bed.

When I looked up, I saw a chubby man standing by the bed, gently trying to find my hand. He was affable, holding a briefcase and smiling with his eyes narrowed.

Come to think of it, he was actually an acquaintance—he was the one who picked me up when I died, one of the legendary Ox-Head and Horse-Face, a civil servant of the Underworld.

When I died, just as I breathed my last, I saw this big brother waiting for me in front of the hospital bed. With a briefcase under his arm and a list in his hand, he asked with a smile: "Dead?"

If he wasn't so friendly, I'm sure he'd be beaten up.

Thereupon, I also beamed and said: "Sorry to keep you waiting."

Big brother waved his hand: "Not long, not long at all. You have a great attitude, kid."

As he spoke, he pushed his hair aside to cover the marks where a fiend had scratched him.

Then he escorted me to my destination.

I thought to myself, but the situation is different now.

"I'm here to remind you that today is the fifth day of your death," the big brother said, still smiling. Your touqi is the day after tomorrow. It's time to return."

I floated out of the skeleton, frowned, and returned my gaze to the sleeping Su Yu, asking, "Do I really have to go back?"

"Everyone asks me this, making me fell like some kind of villain," big brother exclaimed, a little helplessly. "Of course, you must return. Reincarnation requires multiple layers of screening. Only those who meet the qualifications are reincarnated after discussing your merits and demerits in Pan Guan's palace hall. There's a waiting list for reincarnation, and countless ghosts break their necks trying to get in…"

Big brother was long-winded, but then his style abruptly changed. He looked at me and said: "But you think about it well. After assessing the merits and demerits of your life, you're definitely qualified for reincarnation. And your next life will be quite good. You…"

I looked back at Su Yu and didn't speak.

Big brother came to a halt in the middle of his speech, sighed, and said, "This man in your family has a good life and is a promising person. His brows, however, have accumulated black qi in recent days. If this continues, he will die in a few years. Not only will he squander his talents, but..."

Big brother didn't finish his sentence. He patted my shoulder lightly and said, "Dear friend, the separate paths of people and ghosts is not just a story. This is the rule of nature. Nobody is forcing you to do anything. Whichever path you choose, Little Devil, think about it carefully before making a decision."

Big brother turned and walked to the front door. He vanished halfway through.

Su Yu rolled over in his sleep and muttered something vague.

I returned to the skeleton, made Su Yu turn again, nestled in his arms, poked his chest, muttering soundlessly, "Beauty that harms the country ah…."

Su Yu's eyes were closed as he hugged me tighter, lowered his head, and kissed my forehead, mumbling sleepily, "Little fool."

123.

The next day was still lackluster as one man and one ghost spent time together, just the same as before.

Looking at Su Yu's current too comfortable state, and remembering how he used to be fought over by countless bosses and dominate the worplace, I felt that I was delaying this promising young man from striving to build our great motherland, and intermittently impeding the vigorous development of the country's economy.

It's really a grave sin.

Perhaps it was because I was tired from overthinking that I actually fell asleep in a daze at night. The sky was already bright when I awoke, and the bed next to me was empty.

When I rolled over, I noticed Su Yu smoking beside the bed. A beam of light came in through the window, illuminating his silhouette amidst the hazy smoke and dazing everyone who laid eyes on him.

There is a knife above the character for lust. I was really stabbed by Su Yu's knife. [色字头上一把刀: The top part of the character for lust(色) visually resembles the character for knife(刀). In this context, our little ghost is saying he's totally seduced by Su Yu.]

You can't really blame me for that. Mostly because he was a little too attractive when he smoked. I adore the way he looked.

I used to wake up in the middle of the night and find him smoking by the window, holding a cigarette loosely between two fingers, spitting out a smoke ring, his eyes narrowed, and his sharp jawline visible in the cigarette's light was both sexy and abstinent.

He knew that I disliked the smell of cigarettes and rarely smoked in front of me. If I saw him, he'd first ask me how I woke up. I never answered. I'd just walk over to him and hug him, burying my face in his chest and leaning in a daze for a while. While I walked over, he would stub out the cigarette, turn his head, and spit the last puff of smoke out the window, then turn back and kiss the top of my head, softly saying, "I still smell of smoke." Su Yu would raise his hand and rub my head while I held him tightly. He'd eventually take me back to bed and fall asleep with his arms around me.

Su Yu had never made any earth-shattering promises to me, but this was more than enough. It was really enough.

At this point, I looked at his silhouette, stared infatuatedly like a fool for a moment, and then walked over as I always had.

Su Yu put out his cigarette and smiled at me.

What a beautiful morning, what a beautiful lover, what a beautiful scene.

I walked over, overcome with emotion, as I had done countless times before. I raised my hands, gripped his waist, and rested my head on his chest, like in the past, then…

Thump.

Su Yu's nose had been directly hit by my round skull.

Three seconds later, two lines of bright red blood slowly dripped down.

Su Yu: ……
Me: ……

I'm f*cking@#¥%#¥@%@!!!!!
