Chapter 8: Incense ash

106.

Su Yu's face was icy, and he shut the door without saying a word. He turned to face me, his eyes full of protectiveness.
Me: ???

I'm just a little ghost who died a few days ago. The most excessive thing I've ever done was sneak a peek at my ex-boyfriend's blind date. And this prompted a Daoist priest to seek me out? Seriously?!

I looked at the kid next to me with a complicated expression.
The little devil lowered his head in shame, and raised his hand: "...He's looking for me."

107.

The Daoist priest was directly locked out of the door, but he was unfazed. He knocked again, saying, "Benefactor, I have reincarnated for several lifetimes, and have been a Daoist priest in each one, just to protect this little ghost. How can I not be anxious now that the ghost has vanished?"

Su Yu reopened the door, his brow furrowed: "Did you say you've guarded him for many lifetimes?"
"Yes," the Daoist nodded matter-of-factly.
Su Yu looked back at me, with a little...anger in his eyes.
Me: ......

Baby feels wronged, but baby cannot say anything.

108.

Su Yu said coldly, "He's mine now, you can go."

The Daoist was taken aback, then amused: "If you can see him, he's yours? I still have the ice cream I made for him at home. Ask him if he wants to stay with you or me!"

I gave the kid a stern look, wishing I could kick him out the door.

The kid didn't even look at me. The moment he heard "ice cream," his eyes lit up like searchlights, and he dashed to the door, circling the Daoist priest.

The Daoist priest didn't look at him, but smiled and said to Su Yu, "OK, the ghost has been found, I'm leaving."

Su Yu frowned and extended his hand to stop him, saying, "You can't take him away!"

The Daoist priest looked at him calmly for a moment: "There is black air between your brows; it seems something's appeared recently. My ghost isn't like this, it looks like a new ghost."

Su Yu was stunned.

The Daoist priest patted Su Yu's shoulder: "My condolences."

109.

Regardless of how slow Su Yu's brilliant brain's reaction was, he realized it was a misunderstanding. He raised his hand again and stopped the priest, this time asking urgently, "Can you see them?"

Daoist: "No, I can't."
Su Yu: "Then you..."
Daoist: "People who have been with you day and night for many years, even if they are dead, can still be felt even if they're not around."
Su Yu was stunned for a moment before nodding: "You are right."

110.

The little ghost was taken away by the Daoist.

Su Yu walked back into the house and looked at me: "Are you still unwilling to admit that you're back?"

His voice was calm, but tinged with sadness. I felt bad hearing it.

I raised my hand to scratch my head with my joints squeaking, and then jumped down from the big hook where I'd hung myself.

Before I could steady myself, Su Yu moved and took me into his arms.

111.

Su Yu never spoke. He just held me tightly, as if trying to squeeze my bones to pieces.

A moment later, a drop of liquid fell on my shoulder. It was scalding, so scalding that it made me shudder.

Su Yu...was crying?

112.

I went into a panic. I've known this guy for so long that even after I died, I didn't hear him cry. I even believed this person does not understand what it is like to cry in this life.

And now, I'm back, but he's crying.

The atmosphere was too oppressive. I hurriedly tried to comfort him by patting his head, but I forgot that I was just hard bones right now. I was nervous, so my gentle pat on the head turned into a...thud.

There was a deathly echo in the room.

Me: ……
Su Yu: …...

113.

Facts have proved that there is no atmosphere that violence cannot destroy.

I looked at the big bump that had suddenly appeared on Su Yu's head, feeling complicated.

Su Yu looked at me with an ice pack in his hand, looking complicated.

There was an odd silence in the air.

114.

Su Yu finally broke the silence after a while. At this point, he had fully accepted the fact that his former sugar daddy had become a handsome skeleton, and he attempted to establish communication.

Su Yu: "Can you speak?"
I shook my head.
Su Yu: "Then I'll speak, you gesture."
I nodded.
Su Yu: "How long have you been back?"
I thought about it and held up three finger...bones.

I thought that Su Yu would continue to ask more questions, but he simply nodded and stopped talking.

The atmosphere sank back into a strange tranquility.

After a while, Su Yu stood up and said, "I'll go cook."

115.

I can't eat, but this guy made a lot of my favorite dishes. He's doing it on purpose to tease me!

The table was covered with fragrant dishes: braised spare ribs, salt and pepper shrimps, tomato brisket, West Lake fish in vinegar… making me drool.

Just as I was about to rush up to pinch Su Yu to death to vent my anger, I noticed Su Yu pull out an incense burner and sprinkle the incense ashes on the food.

In an instant, all of the dishes became real for me. I could only inhale their fragrance earlier. Now, I can eat them.

Su Yu took up the bowls and chopsticks and began eating the dishes topped with incense ashes without hesitation.

…...This way of eating…...won't he get poisoned?

116.

I watched Su Yu with trepidation while I ate, afraid that he would suddenly fall to the ground, foaming at his mouth—how would I call 120? Even if I made the call, when the great angels in white see a skeleton giving Su Yu artificial respiration, wouldn't it be a magical scene? Wouldn't they collapse to the ground too?

Sin, sin.

Just as I was thinking wildly about whether scaring the angels in white would bring retribution, Su Yu suddenly put down his bowl and chopsticks.

Then he looked at the skeleton opposite silently stuffing rice. His voice was calm as he said, "Let's get married."

My bowl and chopsticks fell to the ground with a crash, rolling far away.

Me: ……
...... You, you, you, say it again?!!
