She took off the increasingly cumbersome down jacket from her body and packed lightly as she went into battle, swiftly moving through the forest.
There were still a few hours until Christmas Eve.
At the familiar spot, she could already see him waiting there from a distance.
"Are you here to wish me a Merry Christmas?" he smiled at her with a relaxed expression.
"Give me your hand!" She grabbed his hand, raised the knife with her other hand, and cut his finger. Green blood flowed out between his fingers.
She tossed the knife away and lowered her head to suck on his wound.
"What are you doing?" He asked, looking baffled at her actions and joked, "Don't tell me you've switched to being the famous Romanian product."
Baili Weibu raised her head and swallowed hard, ingesting the blood in her mouth.
"It's hard to say, being a vampire is rather cool," her chest rose and fell, and she grinned at him, wiping her mouth with satisfaction.
"What's gotten into you?" he suddenly became serious.
"I’m here to give a Christmas gift," she responded seriously as well. Then, she took out a cardboard box from her backpack and placed it in his hand.
He took it and wanted to open it, but she stopped him.
"Give me a hug," she raised her face, her smile radiant.
After a moment's hesitation, he took her into his arms.
The snowfall grew heavier, and the surface of the nearby lake had already frozen, reflecting strange and beautiful light. Each of the falling snowflakes was like a living elf, dancing gracefully in an unheard symphony.
"Sing me the song you sang that day. I think it sounds lovely. Let it be your Christmas gift to me." She hugged him tightly and buried her face in his warm and broad chest.
He smiled and held her even tighter, softly humming the familiar tune.
If we meet,
And I've forgotten the lyrics, will you remember the tune?
If we meet,
And I'm wandering in the twilight, will you light the way?
If we meet and I walk towards you,
Will it matter?
"I……"
After a long while, when the song had drifted far away, he began to speak, but she covered his mouth with her hand.
"Some love stories may end before they even begin," she lifted her face, and all he could see were her reddened eyes. She had secretly wiped away her tears, but she still smiled brilliantly. "But I still love you."
She stood on tiptoes and kissed him gently on the lips.
"This is my first kiss!" She turned and ran away, glancing back to make a playful face at him.
He held the box she had given him and stared blankly at this crazy girl who had suddenly appeared and then disappeared.
He smiled bitterly. She was right; some love stories end before they even begin.
She came to say goodbye to him, he thought.
Indeed, after this Christmas Eve, everything would be over.
He had already prepared himself for it.
