At night, all around was quiet.
Ku Yue sat on the windowsill in his room, typing on the keyboard. "Transaction terminated. Payment returned." He clicked 'send.'
"Reason?" the other party replied quickly.
"I fell in love with a bar here," he answered.
"What's so special about it?"
"The bar owner always plays only one song there - 'Butterfly Kisses.' It's a song a father wrote specifically for his daughter."
"Assassins don't seem to need too many artistic cells, let alone emotions. You've violated a major taboo."
"But you do. The butterfly rocking chair is finished, and even the colors are perfect. He said it took a thousand years."
After this, there was no further response from the other side. Ku Yue turned off his computer and lay quietly on the bed.
The life in Bright Rainbow Realm, his home, his parents, his brother, his sister, all the scenes he had forced himself to forget gradually became clear. What if, back then, he had chosen to go back instead of running away... what would it be like?
He practiced diligently in the human world and acquired profound skills. He killed demons and monsters with unmatched ruthlessness. Each of those ugly and vicious creatures reminded him of the enemies who had turned his father, brother, and sister into ashes. But no matter how many he killed, he couldn't find happiness. His father and brother, along with all his kindred who lived and died with Bright Rainbow Realm, were the true Night Butterfly warriors, born to protect their homeland and loved ones. He, on the other hand, was nothing more than a shameful deserter.
He bought countless houses all over the world, hoping to find a home. But a house was just a house, and no matter how many he owned, it was still not home.
Thinking of Jin Feiyu, thinking of Luoye, Ku Yue couldn't help but hum the song "Butterfly Kisses," which he had listened to hundreds of times.
He began to rejoice that he had come to Moon City. Perhaps he could do something for this place and for certain people, in a truly correct way. Some regrets were irreparable for him, but for others, there might still be room for redemption... If that was the case, why not try?
In the early hours of the morning, as the sky began to lighten, Ku Yue quietly left Moon City. He was going to retrieve something stored elsewhere, something he had once regarded as a disgrace, something he had been too weak to bear.
