Chapter 31: Trap

"Are you tired?" Xie Wang thought for a moment, then added, "We'll shoot this scene tonight."

"I'm okay, I don't mind," Lin Jianlu said.

The phrase "I don't mind" tickled Xie Wang's heart.

"I have to record a song tomorrow," Lin Jianlu said.

So you better act on all your worldly desires tonight; don't waste time, and get on with it.

"Then you should go to bed early tonight," Xie Wang said as he applied medicine to Lin Jianlu's wounds.

Lin Jianlu: "Oh."

The omega looked unhappy again, his eyes downcast, gaze half-empty, with a faint smile at the corner of his mouth.

Xie Wang didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

No wonder, in his memories before his rebirth, Lin Jianlu's level in the later period was so high that he couldn't read him at all. Even with all these injuries, he still persistently kept coming on to him.

He doesn't just like me, he also wants to…sleep with me?

It shouldn't be.

In every instance of them having sex, he was always the one taking the initiative.

To the point that every time he thinks back now, all he can remember is himself out of control, and the omega under him with that forbearing, beautiful face and sweat-soaked black hair.

Lin Jianlu lowered his head to drink juice.

A hand rested on his shoulder, helping him push back his collar a little.

The alpha's fingertips, rough with thin calluses, brushed along the edge of his collarbone, causing a slight, tingling sensation.

His eyes widened slightly, and for a brief moment, a hint of suspicious anticipation flashed in his gaze.

But just as quickly, Xie Wang withdrew.

Xie Wang helped him button his collar to the top.

"Button up," Xie Wang said, "It's too cold."

Lin Jianlu: "…"

"Senior, show some restraint," Lin Jianlu said coldly, then moved to sit five meters away from Xie Wang.

"The late-night snacks Da Wang ordered are pretty good!" Chen Yimo, who had just finished a free hot spring soak session, called out to Lin Jianlu, wrapped in a bathrobe and wearing slippers. "YoYo, come over and eat!"

Lin Jianlu, holding the script he hadn't finished reading, walked over.

"I just saw the scene you shot with Da Wang on the director's monitor," Chen Yimo said. "Da Wang really knows what he's doing. The rhythm control in those few shots is too good. Did he pinch your waist?"

Lin Jianlu nodded.

"With that physique of his, he's a box-office draw," Chen Yimo said. "You're not short either, but when you are next to Da Wang, the difference in size is really noticeable."

Xie Wang couldn't hear what the two were talking about, but from his angle, it seemed like Lin Jianlu's ears had turned red.

What were they talking about for him to react like that?

"YoYo, which side of your face do you like more?" Chen Yimo asked.

Lin Jianlu: "?"

Chen Yimo: "Next time when we shoot the scene where I bully you, I can make sure that side of your face gets more screen time. Some actors really care about that."

Lin Jianlu: "…There's no need for that."

"YoYo," Xie Wang walked over, "the director is looking for you."

"For what?" Lin Jianlu asked, following Xie Wang to where the director was, munching absentmindedly on a baked cookie.

Director: "I didn't…"

Xie Wang stepped on the director's foot.

"Of course, I wouldn't call you over for no reason," the director said, correcting himself. "Go review the two scenes you shot tonight and analyze what needs improvement."

Lin Jianlu was enjoying his late-night snack when, out of nowhere, he was assigned homework. He was stunned for a few seconds before finally letting out an "oh."

"Let's go." Xie Wang put an arm around him. "I have the raw footage in my room."

Just like that, Lin Jianlu was led back to Xie Wang's room.

It wasn't his first time here. Xie Wang kept the room neat and tidy. There were script pages on the table, with some scribbled notes on the side.

"Analysis of the character relationship between detective Chen Ding, yukaihan Qi Ninghang, and hostage Xu Linyou?" Lin Jianlu picked up one of the papers.

"Do you want to read it?" Xie Wang asked him. "I wrote it for you."

Lin Jianlu was taken aback for a moment, then said, "Thanks."

Xie Wang deserves to be called a professional actor.

His own understanding of Xu Linyou, the character he played, was still superficial.

"Xu Linyou, the little poor thing you're playing, isn't as silly, innocent and sweet as he looks," Xie Wang explained as he broke down the role for him. "He's timid, prefers staying in the little nest his alpha built for him, but the fact that he's out there drawing portraits of dangerous people and even uses them to enter competitions shows he actually has an adventurous streak, just like the detective. It's just hidden."

Lin Jianlu: "Huh?"

"Your character spends most of the screen time either being, um, loved by me or getting beaten by Chen Yimo. But he's not a true weakling," Xie Wang continued. "I submit to you, and the twisted criminal played by Chen Yimo is almost emotionally manipulated by you in the later part. His psychological defenses break down, and in the end, we kill him."

This had been the missing element in the movie "Hidden Blade" before his rebirth—something he regretted.

Now, Lin Jianlu's physical traits and raw acting ability fit the role almost perfectly.

Coupled with his personality, Xie Wang hoped his omega could really bring this character to life.

"Thank you," Lin Jianlu said.

Xie Wang's notes on the character were extremely detailed, even diving into facial expressions and micro-movements in some places.

"Do you want to see the raw footage?" Lin Jianlu asked.

Xie Wang: "…"

That was just a small trick to con you into coming over.

However, Lin Jianlu said, "Let's watch the raw footage and you tell me where I need improvement."

Left with no choice, Xie Wang pulled up the raw footage.

Lin Jianlu watched intently. During filming, all he could feel was the hazy mist, and the overwhelming strength of the alpha that left him unable to assume any position other than lying down.

Seeing it from another perspective now, this was what it looked like.

In those few seconds on camera, the shot panned over the alpha's broad, muscular shoulders, his sharp jawline, his prominent nose, and eyes filled with a playful, mocking smile.

The cinematography was beautifully composed—the half-wet drawing paper in the pool looked like white flowers blooming in the misty water.

Except for the two or three fleeting expressions of forbearance that flashed across his face when Xie Wang pinched his waist hard, all the close-ups were of Xie Wang.

So, where exactly was he lacking?

Did he not drink enough water when he was thrashing around?

Lin Jianlu closed the raw footage and picked another scene from the list of files the cinematographer had sent to Xie Wang, choosing one based on its sequence.

Xie Wang had missed the filming of this particular scene because he had been meeting with the wedding dress designer to perfect the design that day.

According to Chen Yimo, Lin Jianlu had breezed through the shoot.

It did seem effortless. The omega was tied up and stuffed into the trunk, while the criminal robbed a gas station store, deliberately leaving the trunk lid wide open for him to watch.

The omega's eyes, like those of a frightened fawn, darted in panic the moment the trunk lid was opened. He scrambled back using both hands and feet, only to be caught by the ropes and collapse awkwardly inside the trunk.

"Did Chen Yimo teach you this scene?" Xie Wang asked.

Lin Jianlu: "Yeah, and the director too."

His acting is raw, but the character portrayal is spot on.

Xie Wang said to himself.

Lin Jianlu moved the mouse, ready to play another clip.

But Xie Wang reached out and closed the laptop.

"So cute," Xie Wang said.

Lin Jianlu: "?"

He didn't like the word "cute."

Those alpha bigwigs who wanted to marry him home in exchange for business benefits, always used that word to compliment him when they met him.

So he pursed his lips, not too happy.

Xie Wang sighed inwardly.

Is he angry?

Forget it, I'll try to please him and act like the bewitched type Lin Jianlu likes.

Lin Jianlu was thinking about whether to leave something behind in the room or borrow something instead.

Lacking inspiration, he got up to look for ideas.

Just as he stood, a hand reached from behind and pulled him back.

This time, Xie Wang kissed him a bit aggressively. The alpha's breath had a faint hint of grapefruit, and the pheromones-laden kiss made him feel like a flower caught in a rainstorm, soaked inside and out.

When Xie Wang finally let him go, he could barely stand and sank to the floor, looking up at the alpha who had just kissed him.

"It's getting late," Xie Wang said, wiping the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand. "Hurry back and get some rest. Didn't you just say you have to record a song tomorrow?"

He shoved a few pages of script notes into the omega's hands and pushed him out of the room, closing the door. Leaning against the door, he exhaled a long sigh.

Lin Jianlu was too inexperienced and immature now. A mere kiss made him soften and melt into Xie Wang's arms. Xie Wang couldn't bring himself to go any further.

What's more, his omega's schedule has been so packed lately.

He couldn't act recklessly. He needed to be gentle and offer Lin Jianlu only the best.

Lin Jianlu stood dazed in the hallway for about twenty seconds before turning and heading back to his own room.

[Lan]: What happened, YoYo?

[YoYo]: Heartbroken.jpg

[YoYo]: Crying bitterly.jpg

[Lan]: What did Xie Wang do to you?

[YoYo]: Am I really that bad?

[YoYo]: With so many A's chasing me, I thought I…don't lack anything. I threw myself into his arms, and he just ignored me.

[YoYo]: Confidence, kaput.

[Lan]: Come on, X Uni's campus beauty, have some confidence!

[YoYo]: I give up.

[Lan]: Good man.

Ten minutes later.

[YoYo]: I can't find a more enticing A. Pushes up glasses.jpg

[Lan]: ...

A few days later, Xie Wang finally received a call from XX brand, informing him that the wedding dress had been customized.

"Okay, I'll give you the address; just deliver it to my place," Xie Wang said. "Hmm... If any adjustments are needed, I'll contact you."

[xw]: YoYo, the wedding dress for the shoot has been customized.

[xw]: I need you to come try it on and see if it fits.

Lin Jianlu didn't reply.

In fact, Lin Jianlu hadn't responded to any of his messages over the past few days.

Including but not limited to—

[xw]: It's cold, dress warm.

[xw]: When the album comes out, I'll buy a ton.

Xie Wang: "…"

Where is he?

Where's my wife?

There was a red dot on the posts of his Moments.

Lin Jianlu's latest update.

Posted "just now."

[YoYo]: The drummer's pretty good; great sense of rhythm.

The accompanying picture was from a live performance at a bar.

The stage lighting reminded Xie Wang of the bar where the last fierce A show took place.

His temper flared.

He clenched his fists, slammed the door, and went to get his car.

The cold outdoor air hit him square in the face.

Xie Wang thought for a moment and poked Chen Yimo.

[xw]: In?

[1]: ?    [The Yi in Yimo means "one."]

[xw]: Check your Moments to see if there is any update from Lin Jianlu.

[1]: None.

Xie Wang: "…"

Very good.

Such a big trap, dug for him.

Da Wang: I have to jump into this trap.
