Chapter 51: Realization

The alpha's fingertips grazed past the corner of his eye, down along his cheek, and finally paused briefly at his earlobe for half a second before withdrawing.

A very simple wiping motion.

It was a reasonable action considering the nature of their current relationship.

But his earlobe was a sensitive spot; even a light touch there would make him feel like trembling.

How could Xie Wang, after just sleeping with him a few times, know his sensitive areas so well?

The alpha's unconscious action was like lighting a fire, leaving him with an urge to tease back.

But no, he couldn't.This is stolen from https://chipoholictranslations.blogspot.com/p/homepage.html

It was better to be cautious.

Still, he remembered his current makeup and costume. There shouldn't be any dust on his face—where did that come from?

"We're done for today," the director said. "You two can take a break."

Lin Jianlu didn't get a break. His company was sending him to a music awards ceremony, supposedly because attending such large events was good for boosting his popularity.

"I'm done," Lin Jianlu called his manager. "You…"

"If your manager's busy, there's no need for her to pick you up," Xie Wang interrupted from the side. "I happen to be going to that awards ceremony too. I'll give you a ride."

Lin Jianlu held his phone slightly away. "You're going to a music awards ceremony? Whatever for?"

Surely not… for his sake.

He wavered between 'self-awareness' and 'the possibility of the unlikely,' and, almost miraculously, experienced the torment of tossing and turning in indecision.

"I..." Xie Wang began, intending to say, Can't I go with you? But on second thought, Lin Jianlu seemed to be distancing himself from him today.

Xie Wang: "A friend of mine is winning an award today, so I'm going to congratulate him."

Lin Jianlu: "Really?"

Lin Jianlu: "Then I'll trouble you, senior. I'll go grab my bag first."

While Lin Jianlu went to fetch his bag, Xie Wang took the chance to poke Pei Yan.

[xw]: Tonight's award ceremony, introduce me to someone who's winning an award. I need a friend.

[Pei Yan]: ?

[xw]: Hurry up! More friends, more roads.

[Pei Yan]: Fine.

Pei Yan did as his friend asked, and before long, a friend request popped up on Xie Wang's messaging app.

Xie Wang accepted it.

Meanwhile, on his way to grab his bag, Lin Jianlu chatted with Wei Lan.

[YoYo]: I was really restrained today, but Da Wang still took the initiative to approach me.

[Lan]: Maybe it's time to consider my analysis?

Lin Jianlu fell into a brief silence.

Time and time again, Xie Wang's concern for him didn't seem fake.

If it were only about sleeping with him and making the experience better, Lin Jianlu thought it would be unnecessary to go to such lengths.

[YoYo]: What should I do, LanLan? I feel like I'm getting a bit carried away.

[YoYo]: I'll be really sad if the outcome isn't what I want.

Spinning a cocoon around oneself likely describes someone like him.

How could a hunter ever be tempted by his prey?

But thoughts are the hardest to control; once the floodgates are open, it's almost impossible to hold them back.

[Lan]: Then stop worrying about whether he's even better at fishing alphas than you are. Go test his feelings for you.

But Lin Jianlu didn't know what to do.

"Is your bag heavy?" Xie Wang walked over and grabbed the bag from his hand. "You took so long to come."

Xie Wang: "Hurry up and get in the car."

Lin Jianlu: "Coming."

The car had the heater on full blast, and Lin Jianlu took off his jacket, folding it neatly and placing it aside.

The air freshener in the car was grapefruit-scented and smelled good.

"Is the temperature okay?" Xie Wang asked.

Lin Jianlu: "Mm."

He used to think that Xie Wang's little gestures of concern were unnecessary and redundant.

A Fierce A only needed to be fierce in bed; there was no need to hum and haw over trifles.

But somewhere along the way, he stopped feeling like these things were unnecessary.

"You've only got one scene left, and then it's done." Xie Wang said.

Lin Jianlu: "Mm."

It was a very difficult scene, involving both a kissing and a sex scene.

"Have you ever slept with another omega before?" Lin Jianlu suddenly asked.

Xie Wang almost drove the car onto the curb.

"No, you're the first." Xie Wang said.

And the only one.

It was you before rebirth, and it's still you after rebirth.

"Why suddenly ask this?" Xie Wang asked.

"I don't mean anything else." Lin Jianlu looked out the car window and said, "I just think Teacher Xie is very skilled with kissing scenes and sex scenes."

Xie Wang: "..."

Would you believe me if I said it's sleeping with you that made me good at it?

"I studied it for the role." Xie Wang said.

Lin Jianlu paused for a moment before replying, "You're quite dedicated then."

Xie Wang: "."

Why did he feel like Lin Jianlu was hinting at something?

Lin Jianlu: "You're quite skilled at sleeping with omegas."

Xie Wang: "Alpha's instinct."

"Is that so?"

Lin Jianlu seemed to accept that explanation and didn't ask any further questions.

The awards ceremony was held at a commercial exhibition center in the city. By the time they arrived, the parking area was already packed with cars from various celebrity companies.

Lin Jianlu was already known to the media. As soon as he got out of the car, they swarmed him with cameras, flashes firing incessantly.

"Everyone, please make way." Xie Wang shielded him. "Turn off the flash if you can, and stop pushing."

The media thought to themselves that Lin Jianlu's bodyguard was unusually fierce today, guarding him so tightly that it was impossible to get a clear shot.

Looking again, they realized—this f*cking isn't some damn bodyguard! It's the famous actor Xie Wang!

And so, the two of them got frantically photographed again.

"I need to go say hi to a record producer from the partner company," Lin Jianlu said.

"Sure, go ahead," Xie Wang replied.

He, meanwhile, needed to find a congratulatory card—a little gesture to congratulate his "friend" on bagging an award.

Lin Jianlu headed backstage.

The record producer he had collaborated with wasn't around, so he just waited in the hallway for a short while.

"Lin Jianlu!" A voice burst out near him. "Why are you here too?"

A little familiar and somewhat annoying.

It was Lin Zhi, his cousin.

Lin Jianlu's tone was cold: "What do you want?"

"I heard you got some broke-ass A to mark you?" Lin Zhi said. "You really didn't have to stoop that low, did you?"

Lin Zhi: "That pretty face of yours, wasted on some fat, ugly, penniless A—it's a shame."

Lin Jianlu recalled that, in order to keep the Lin family from troubling Xie Wang, he had made up some nonsense.

But I don't think my BS was so detailed?

The more it spread, the more ridiculous it became.

"My boyfriend is still the best," Lin Zhi said, clinging to his alpha. "The eldest son of the Li family—he is good to me and helps our family in every way."

That alpha's gaze was zeroed in on Lin Jianlu, making him feel uncomfortable.

"I'm leaving," he said.

However, Lin Zhi stopped him and leaned close to the back of his neck: "What a great alpha, even the scent of his mark is so faint."

Lin Jianlu frowned and turned to leave.

After greeting the producer he'd collaborated with, he returned to his seat.

Xie Wang was holding a bouquet of flowers. Tucked among them was a congratulatory card that read, "Congratulations on your award."

Lin Jianlu had just seen the list of winners.

Three omegas, one alpha.

The friend Xie Wang had come specially to congratulate—which one was it?

They must be close friends. Otherwise, why would he come all the way after work and buy flowers? He even picked yellow roses—my favorite.

It's probably an omega.

"Is your friend's song good?" Lin Jianlu asked.

Xie Wang: "Yes, it's good."

I just haven't heard it yet.

Lin Jianlu: "Oh."

Xie Wang wasn't paying much attention to the awards ceremony in front of him.

Today, Lin Jianlu was acting very strange—keeping a proper distance from him and not making any moves that could stimulate his imagination.

He pulled out a yellow rose and handed it to Lin Jianlu.

Lin Jianlu: "?"

Xie Wang: "For you to play with."

Lin Jianlu: "But I'm not getting an award."

Xie Wang thought to himself, I know.

Don't you like to prick your hand with yellow rose thorns to attract my attention?

"Forget it," Xie Wang said, pulling the flower back.

Don't hurt your hand.

Every time Lin Jianlu hooked him, he made himself suffer some discomfort.

Pricking his hand, scraping his waist, or getting his knees rubbed red from kneeling on the ground—similar things, Horny Deer had done many.

He'd rather Lin Jianlu distance himself from him than see him get hurt.

Lin Jianlu looked puzzled when the flower in his hand was taken back.

The award ceremony on stage began, and the winning singer acknowledged the friends who were present.

When the omega singers spoke, Lin Jianlu almost held his breath.

The first didn't mention Xie Wang, and neither did the second.

The third—

"I want to thank my friend Xie..." The omega singer glanced down at the cue card, "Xie Wang, for sending his best wishes in person."

The camera switched to Xie Wang, who waved the congratulatory card in his hand.

Congratulatory cards didn't sell on their own; they came with bought flowers.

He would give the flowers to YoYo, and use the congratulatory card to cover up the lie he made up when he came here.

Lin Jianlu stared at the smiling face of the omega singer holding the trophy on stage for a long time.

This is the friend that Xie Wang came to see specially.

A sweet, healing-type omega singer, beautiful and with a sweet voice, an ideal "little sweet O."

Nothing like his cold and aloof style.

But Fierce A like Da Wang are usually into little sweet O who are obedient and well-behaved.

His self-awareness suddenly gained the upper hand.

Fortunately, some of his thoughts had not yet surfaced.

Most of the award ceremony had passed, and Xie Wang still hadn't seen Lin Jianlu make a move.

It's... so disappointing?

Xie Wang suddenly felt a little irritable, frustration and possessiveness surging over him all at once.

The omega sitting beside him had an elegant and beautiful side profile, completely devoid of any seductive intent. This is stolen from https://chipoholictranslations.blogspot.com/p/homepage.html

Lin Jianlu rarely wore white outside of filming, but today, he did. He looked like freshly fallen snow—pure and unblemished.

Lin Jianlu didn't do anything, yet desire still rose within him.

He had always believed Lin Jianlu schemed meticulously to tempt him at every turn, but—

If he didn't already harbor improper thoughts, he wouldn't lose control like that because of a few words and simple actions.

How could he put all the blame on Lin Jianlu for something that both of them had participated in?

The award ceremony was nearing its end.

"Back to the set?" Xie Wang asked.

"I want to go home," Lin Jianlu said.

Home?

But does Lin Jianlu have a home?

With the Lin family being the way it was, 'home' was just a place Lin Jianlu couldn't return to.

Lin Jianlu corrected himself: "Back to the dorm."

"You can't go back to the dorm," Xie Wang said confidently. "We're filming at 4 a.m. tomorrow to catch the dawn light."

Lin Jianlu gave in.

The award ceremony was for musicians, and there were many seniors in the audience whom Lin Jianlu admired and respected. Some of them had even given him guidance during his creative process.

Xie Wang sent two messages to thank the friend that Pei Yan had introduced him to, and when he turned around, Lin Jianlu was gone.

He looked around, and spotted his omega standing near the stage, talking to the blond alpha who had just won an award.

"Senior, thank you for helping me find the sheet music that day," Lin Jianlu said. "It was very helpful."

"Don't mention it," the alpha replied. "With your talent, you'll be the one winning this award next year. If you ever need help, feel free to ask."

When Xie Wang walked over, he happened to hear Lin Jianlu say—

"Thank you, Senior."

Xie Wang was upset.

Lin Jianlu had been calling him "Senior" all this time.

But Lin Jianlu had many "Seniors."

"Oh, by the way," Lin Jianlu said to the alpha, "Teacher Wang asked me to tell you that the music classroom is being renovated, so the piano you left there has temporarily been moved to my personal music room."

"It's fine, that's okay," the alpha said. "I'll just go to your music room next time I'm at college."

Lin Jianlu: "Mm."

Xie Wang listened from the side.

This one was a real Senior—same college, and it sounded like they weren't too far apart in terms of year.

But when Lin Jianlu said he wanted to go back to school just now, was it because he wanted to go with this alpha?

After finishing his conversation with the other alpha, Lin Jianlu finally turned to Xie Wang and said they could head back to the set.

Compared to on the way there, the two of them were rather quiet.

Xie Wang fastened his seatbelt, but did not start the car.

"Are you close with him?" he asked.

Lin Jianlu: "Okay, I guess."

There's usually a bit more to talk about between peers in the same field.

Lin Jianlu was a little unhappy today, so he answered Xie Wang's questions perfunctorily, his mind still on the little sweet O from earlier.

At some point, the aura on the alpha's side also cooled down.

The car stopped in front of the hotel that had been booked for the crew.

"Did you want to go back to school with him just now?" Xie Wang asked.

Lin Jianlu: "No."

"Lin Jianlu," Xie Wang said, "haven't I satisfied you enough?"

Lin Jianlu seemed to have never heard such a presumptuous remark before. He frowned slightly. "Senior, what are you talking about?"

What did Xie Wang mean by that?

"I… don't want to sleep with you tonight," Lin Jianlu said. "Go find someone else."

He placed his hand on the car door and tried to open it, only to realize it was locked.

"I want to rest," he said icily.

"Lin Jianlu," Xie Wang said, "do you think I'm with you just to sleep with you?"

Xie Wang's eyes were slightly red, the enraged alpha like a tense wolf. "I just want to f*ck you?"

Lin Jianlu responded coldly, "What else?"

So affectionate, so skilled in bed, so adept at temporary marking.

Keeps slippers in little sweet O style at home, and stocks up on so many snacks little sweet O like.

"Do you even have a conscience?" the alpha almost growled.

Lin Jianlu felt a pain in his neck as the alpha's hand pressed against it, pulling him closer. Xie Wang held him down with one hand, leaning in for a kiss.

His lips stung from the rough bite, and the alpha's pheromones filled the confined air of the car—volatile, exuding both dominance and a strange undercurrent of comfort.

The soft, petal-like lips were ruthlessly pried open, and the grapefruit-scented pheromones invaded his mouth, leaving Lin Jianlu trembling slightly under the force of the kiss.

"Aren't you enjoying this?" Xie Wang demanded. "You think I just want to f*ck you. Then what about you?"

Lin Jianlu's jaw and cheeks hurt under the alpha's tight grip, forcing him to tilt his head upward and meet Xie Wang's intense gaze.

Xie Wang: "How are you any different from me?"

Lin Jianlu slammed at the car's door release button, looking frustrated.

With a click, the lock disengaged. Lin Jianlu swiftly slipped out of the alpha's hold, pushed open the door. His legs nearly gave way beneath him as he staggered away.

Xie Wang leaned back in his seat, looking at the back of a certain someone fleeing in panic, feeling both angry and amused.

This argument was utterly ridiculous.

He shouldn't have taken his anger out on Lin Jianlu because of the alpha that showed up earlier.

It was too reminiscent of the way he'd been before his rebirth—losing his temper and snapping at Lin Jianlu whenever his emotions were provoked.

But Lin Jianlu usually ignored him.

Lin Jianlu would just listen to his barking with an indifferent expression, wait for him to finish, then dig a pit to tease him and actively look for sex.

But just now, Horny Deer seemed to have confronted him.

Indeed, as Xie Wang replayed the moment in his mind, not only had Lin Jianlu talked back, but he had also been cold and fierce.

Totally unprecedented.

Right then, Pei Yan called.

"Da Wang, you're so cheap. You went to congratulate my classmate for winning an award and only gave him a congratulatory card?" Pei Yan demanded.

Xie Wang laughed.

Pei Yan: "Da Wang, what are you laughing at?"

"Hahaha, he scolded me. He just scolded me." The alpha's voice was full of smiles. "He cares about me."

Pei Yan: "..."

Pei Yan: "The escape room show we recorded the other day—I just got the rough cut. Lin Jianlu's small dark room monologue in the middle is pretty interesting. I'll send it to you."

Xie Wang: "Sure."

Pei Yan sent over Lin Jianlu's part.

"Wouldn't it be easier to just stay put and play the hostage? Why escape first?" a staff member asked.

Lin Jianlu: "Da Wang would worry."

"Whose escape room outfit do you like best?"

Lin Jianlu: "Da Wang."

"If you were asked to choose one person from the group to be stranded with on a deserted island, who would it be?"

Lin Jianlu: "Da Wang."

Lin Jianlu blushed.

Xie Wang smiled.

How many times had Lin Jianlu said "Da Wang" in that clip?

A phone rang; Lin Jianlu's phone.

Clearly, Lin Jianlu had left his phone and bag in his car again.

This time, it didn't seem intentional—he just subconsciously treated his space as his own.

On the other end of the call was Lin Ming's voice—

"Lin Jianlu, I heard from Lin Zhi that you don't have any alpha scent on you, which means you haven't been marked," Lin Ming said. "You must come home next week. The second son of the Li family likes you a lot and his betrothal gift is generous. If you know what's good for you, marry him and you'll have plenty of resources."

Xie Wang frowned.

Mark.

Lin Jianlu had been trying to get marked by him all this time.

So it's actually to deal with the Lin family?

I see.

Their marriage before his rebirth was the same.

He had been the refuge Lin Jianlu sought when he had no other way out.

So this time, the long-delayed forced marriage was because—

Lin Jianlu didn't want the Lin family to trouble him.

Xie Wang suddenly understood something and laughed softly.

Lin Jianlu secretly cared about him.

"Who are you?" Lin Ming recognized a different voice.

"I'm his husband," Xie Wang said.

***This is stolen from https://chipoholictranslations.blogspot.com/p/homepage.html

Lin Jianlu had already returned to his room.

On the screen of his laptop, Wei Lan's chat window was still open.

[YoYo]: He doesn't like me.

[YoYo]: He likes little sweet O.

[Lan]:? Are you sure?

[YoYo]: Yes. There will never be another Fierce A I like as much as him.

[Lan]: Oh, then you might as well have a breakup fling while you're at it—just don't end up on the losing side.

The room door was knocked on.

Lin Jianlu went to open it.

Xie Wang was leaning against the doorframe, holding his black backpack in one hand.

Xie Wang: "You left it in my car."

Lin Jianlu took it.

Lin Jianlu: "Thanks."

As soon as he took the bag, he tried to close the door, but Xie Wang blocked it and prevented him from shutting it.

Xie Wang: "Weren't you hoping to see me?"

Lin Jianlu losing things meant he wanted Xie Wang to follow him.

Xie Wang had grown very familiar with this tactic.

"That's not what I meant." Lin Jianlu said coldly, "Don't jump to conclusions."

He had just been distracted and accidentally left the backpack behind.

"Why are your eyes red?" Xie Wang asked.

The current Lin Jianlu wasn't nearly as skilled at hiding his emotions as he would be later.

Had he cried out of anger?

Xie Wang regretted letting his tongue run for the sake of momentary satisfaction.

"Wanting me isn't shameful," Xie Wang said. "Why are you mad?"

"Da Wang," Lin Jianlu said icily. "We've broken up."

Xie Wang: "???"

Are you serious right now? It was just purely physical—how do you even have the nerve to call this a breakup?

Hes gotta be out of his mind from anger.

Taking advantage of his brief moment of stunned silence, Lin Jianlu slammed the door shut in his face with a loud bang.

Now, Xie Wang understood just how much Lin Jianlu cared about him.

He's pissed off.

Time to coax him, Xie Wang thought.

He needed to coax Lin Jianlu into marrying him.
