Chapter 35: Nerd (fake)

"Are you trying to steal my job, Da Wang?" Chen Yimo also asked.

Xie Wang: "…No."

He couldn't even say a few words to his omega without being rushed.

As a popular actor, he was finding himself having less and less say in the crew.

"Go ahead," he said, stepping aside.

The crew members swarmed around.

"Da Wang, don't go too far, your scene is up next," the director said.

"I know, I'm waiting right here." Xie Wang found a spot nearby and sat down.

"Camera crew, check the angles. Lin Jianlu, look at the camera," the director said. "What are you looking at Da Wang for! Do you really have something urgent to say?"

Lin Jianlu: "…"

"Chen Yimo, move aside a bit," the director continued. "You're playing a pervert, not an actual pervert. Don't rush in with the whip and stick like that. Wait until I call you over."

Chen Yimo: "..."

After the trio were scolded into settling down, the makeup artist used half a bottle of mineral water to wet Lin Jianlu’s bangs.

The omega lowered his wet eyelashes, lips tightly pressed together. A sliver of sunlight poured through the cracks in the dilapidated roof, making the jewels and diamonds on the white wedding dress sparkle brilliantly.

"Very nice." The director instructed the cameraman, "Do a full circle and get a close-up."

Wires were only an aid; having his hands raised and suspended was still uncomfortable. Xie Wang hoped these people could shoot faster and stop fussing over aesthetics.

So just when was Lin Jianlu going to pressure him into marriage?

They'd already had sex, so why wasn't he in a hurry?

He'd already planned out the wedding process in his mind. This time, he wanted to get Lin Jianlu a proper ring.

But his omega was filming with someone else in a wedding dress right now!

"Chen Yimo, be careful when you swing that whip on the ground," the director said. "Don't really hit Lin Jianlu."

"I just hit myself in the calf. Does that count as a work injury?" Chen Yimo asked.

Director: "It counts as serves you right."

Lin Jianlu barely had any lines in this scene. His job was to look beautiful and tragic. It all depended on Chen Yimo's sense of conviction as an actor to carry him through.

"Hold on a sec," the director had another thought and waved to the man who was having an imaginary wedding not far away, "Da Wang, come here."

"What now?" Xie Wang put down the half-peeled grapefruit and walked over.

"How do you think this scene should be handled?" the director asked. "I feel like Chen Yimo didn't quite handle the atmosphere right just now."

"The script?" Xie Wang reached out his hand.

He skimmed through it briefly.

Xie Wang: "…"

Dumbf*ck Chen Yimo, why should I teach you to bully my wife?

Whatever, it's just work.

"I was zoned out just now. How did you play it?" he asked.

"Pulled his hair," Chen Yimo replied.

Lin Jianlu wasn't too happy about having his head tilted back by his hair again, and had a look of despair in his eyes.

Xie Wang almost laughed.

After a moment of thought, Xie Wang said, "I get it."

Xie Wang: "The villain you're playing, Qi Ninghang, in that earlier lakeside scene, was once counterattacked by the omega hostage Xu Linyou. He slashed your leg with a dagger."

Chen Yimo: "Yeah, yeah!"

"So at this point, you're really wary of him, and a bit intimidated," Xie Wang analyzed. "Besides tying him up, you'll try your best to avoid physical contact with him, and definitely won't reach out and pull his hair yourself. That's what I think."

"That's right!" The director praised, "That's pretty much the feeling!"

"If I were you..." Xie Wang thought for a moment, took the whip from Chen Yimo's hand, coiled it in his palm, and used the tip of the whip to lift Lin Jianlu's chin. "I'd handle it like this."

Once again, the omega was forced to look up.

"Your line," Xie Wang urged.

"'Tell me, if he sees you as the bait, will he come?'" Chen Yimo read his line with emotion.

"Yours," Xie Wang pressed the tip of the whip against the omega's cheek.

Lin Jianlu recited his line emotionlessly: "'How do you know this isn't a trap for you?'"

"That's the mood as I see it. You guys can think it over again yourselves," Xie Wang said as he tossed the script back to the director. Instantly, the aura of his character vanished, and he shouted, "Get him some water! How long have we been shooting?"

"It's not sunny today. You think you shine so much it'll dehydrate him?" the director barked back in irritation.

Despite his words, the assistant still trotted over, offering Lin Jianlu a cup of water with a straw.

"I'm leaving you some bloopers," the director called to the camera crew.

The filming of the scene continued smoothly.

After being fussed over by the makeup artist, it was finally time for Xie Wang's scene—

The detective had broken into a danger-filled, abandoned amusement park, following clues that led him to the fairy tale theater.

At the center of the long-abandoned theater, a dim, grayish gas lamp flickered. An omega in a bloodstained white wedding gown was tied to a chair, his head slightly bowed.

The moment the omega saw him, he froze for a long time, seemingly taking a moment to recognize who he was, a mix of joy and fear washing over him.

"Ah, cut! Cut!" the director shouted, "Lin Jianlu, I'm calling you out!"

Director: "You're afraid because you know there's an ambush here, and you're happy because you love him. What's with that superficial admiring look?!"

Lin Jianlu: "…"

Xie Wang: "…"

Xie Wang's outfit was the classic costume of "Hidden Blade."

The wasteland style mixed with a hint of dark punk really showcased his tall frame and commanding presence.

Director: "You miss him, not want to patronize him."

Xie Wang: "…"

Chen Yimo: "Hahahahaha, the director is most likely blind! As if YoYo would care about an A like Da Wang! Lin YoYo is definitely into the gentler type."

After several adjustments, Lin Jianlu finally got through the scene—

The criminal presented the detective with a difficult choice: on one side was his omega wife, and on the other side was the lead on three missing persons.

Caught in this dilemma, Xie Wang found himself struggling.

Lin Jianlu broke free from his restraints, deliberately triggering the trap that was originally meant to ensnare the detective.

Xie Wang's character, Chen Ding, was forced to step back, and the criminal had to rush in to save the omega, getting injured again.

There were a lot of action scenes today, and Chen Yimo was tired to the point of dropping. After finishing this part, he plopped down on the rocking car next to the children's theater, slowly rocking by himself.

Xie Wang took a running jump onto the stage and quickly untied the rope on Lin Jianlu's wrists.

Lin Jianlu leaned on the chair to stand up, his beautiful wedding dress now in disarray from the shoot.

"It's a bit heavy," Lin Jianlu said. "I'll go change."

Here it comes.

Xie Wang's spirits rose.

After being pitted for so long, he felt uncomfortable all over if he didn't step on a pit every day.

Taking off the dress is not something he can do on his own, right?

Hurry up and call for Senior Xie.

Just call me and I'll answer.

With the heavy, intricate train of the wedding dress in hand, Lin Jianlu headed off with his assistant to find the changing room, not saying a single word to Xie Wang.

Xie Wang: "…"

This isn't what we agreed on!

The crew was filming a scene for the supporting characters, while the two alpha leads sat on rocking cars at the door, staring into space.

"Da Wang," Chen Yimo asked, "You just peeled a ton of grapefruits. Give me a piece."

"Pay up, and I'll sell you one," Xie Wang replied, extending his hand.

"Stingy," Chen Yimo grumbled, deciding against it.

Lin Jianlu finally changed out of that cumbersome outfit. He walked briskly in his everyday clothes.

"Wanna eat?" The alpha handed him a stay fresh bag, "Replenish your fluids."

"Grapefruit?" Lin Jianlu took the bag.

So much?

And it's peeled so cleanly.

Was this what Xie Wang was messing with just now?

"Thank you," Lin Jianlu said.

Xie Wang watched him intently.

Is it good?

It's good; now let's jump into a trap!

But today, Lin Jianlu was really well-behaved. His eating was reserved and elegant; he didn't get any juice on his full lips, nor did he gravity defyingly lean towards him while riding the car.

What's going on here?

He can't find a shovel to dig holes?

Xie Wang created a little opportunity for the two of them to be alone.

For instance, he found a chance to rehearse lines with Lin Jianlu, and then they even went to the makeup room together to discuss the next scene's styling.

The omega's collar was pulled up tightly, and he just read the script like he said he would, showing an unprecedented level of seriousness.

There wasn't a single unnecessary action.

Xie Wang: "…"

Lin Jianlu sat in the dressing room, slowly finishing the grapefruit that Xie Wang had peeled for him.

Sweet and delicious.

Xie Wang was hovering around him today.

Previously, he had racked his brains to create opportunities for them to interact, but today, those opportunities kept coming to his door.

However, he wasn't planning on flirting with the alpha today.

He'd been thoroughly done just a few days ago and his a*s was still sore, so he wanted to take it easy for a while.

The phone on the table rang.

Lin Jianlu picked it up.

Xie Wang pricked up his ears.

Lin Jianlu: "Mn?"

Lin Jianlu: "Mn??"

Lin Jianlu: "Mn…"

"I need to head back to school for a bit," the omega said.

"Got some schoolwork?" Xie Wang asked.

Lin Jianlu: "...You could say that."

Lin Jianlu took time off to return to school, and shortly after, Pei Yan called, so Xie Wang decided to meet him for a drink.

"Are you really getting married soon?" Pei Yan asked. "Or are you just trying to trick me into giving you gift money?"

"Do I look like I'm short of money?" Xie Wang shot back.

Pei Yan started dishing out gossip: "You probably don't know the eldest young master of the Zhou family too well, but I do. I'm telling you for a laugh. His family introduced him to an omega of a similar family background. The guy looked quiet and innocent but had a bit of a stubborn and stiff personality. Young Master Zhou didn't like him and said a lot of harsh things to his face."

Xie Wang was absent-minded.

"And guess what? He fell for him later," Pei Yan continued. "Recently, he's been chasing that omega to propose, full of confidence."

That's it!

Propose marriage.

Xie Wang's eyes lit up.

If the mountain won't come to me, I'll go to the mountain.

Bronze-brains YoYo probably hasn't even figured out yet that you're supposed to run home and tattle when you get bullied.

Why wait for him to bring it up?

He could ask for Lin Jianlu's hand.

Meanwhile, Pei Yan kept rambling, "So, get this—before he even had the chance to propose, Young Master Zhou found out that the omega had added more than twenty high-quality alphas on his WeChat, chatting them all up at once. And Young Master Zhou was ranked 22nd with a score of just 70! His remark? 'A bit greasy.' He didn't even make it onto the love roster."

Xie Wang: "…"

"So funny...Zhou called him uptight—turns out the omega's so wild he's totally not into him!" Pei Yan guffawed. "I think his name's Wei Lan. It sounds quite artistic."

[Wei Lan has a lyrical cadence when spoken and invokes imagery of a grand wave/deep blue ocean.]

Xie Wang: "Hahahaha."

Xie Wang: "Ha…?"

Wei Lan?

Wei Lan?!

Isn't that Lin Jianlu's nerdy little buddy?!

Does his family's Lin Jianlu know Wei Lan is so wild?
